SEMIFINALS: Magnolia vs Western Feedmill; SPDC vs. DFFC

In a repeat of the last conference final four pairing, Western Feedmill will face Magnolia in the first game while SPDC confronts DFFC in the second game. Unlike the last conference, this time Western Feedmill and SPDC will enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage being the no. 2 and no. 1 seed respectively after the elimination round. Western Feedmill will rely on the troika of Flores, Patrick Gabi, and Orly dela Cruz, with speedster Nelson Traya and center Onsit Arcillo providing the support. Magnolia will parade its top gun Bong "sweet papi" Papelera, superbull Doc Ericson Irlandez, Adrian Basoc and James "Pistolero" Gutierrez. Outside firepower will come from Jimmy Dacalano.

In the second game, SPDC will pin its hope on center Jimbo Baba, mainman Joel Lanutan, and Baba's twin tower, Remuel Remocaldo. Providing support are guards Erwin Betinol and Macaraya. DFFC will have to depend on Allan Barbarona, Rogelio Papa, and Panlaan.

DFFC dismissed SMFI-Live operations

Davao Fresh Foods Corporation (DFFC) ended the hopes of SMFI-Live operations of barging into the semifinal round, 93-69. SMFI-Live failed to crack and succumbed to the trapping defense put up by DFFC in the fourth quarter. The first three quarters was a nip and tuck battle were we saw several lead changes. Halftime score is 37-36 in favor of DFFC. Four minutes into the fourth quarter with DFFC leading 66-60, DFFC switches to a trapping defense which SMFI Live failed to solve. SMFI never recovered from the trapping defense and committed numerous errors. DFFC outscored SMFI-Live in the entire second half, 56-33, for the final score of 93-69.

DFFC will now face Sirawan Polomolok Development Corporation (SPDC) next, in what will be a repeat of the last conference semifinal pairing where SPDC demolished the gritty DFFC squad. SPDC will enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage, by virtue of being the top seed in the elimination round. Don't count out DFFC, DFFC is the only team that have beaten SPDC, 83-67,in the elimination round of this conference. However in that game, SPDC played without their bigman Jimbo Baba. Game time is 4:30pm Sunday November 15, 2009 right after the telecast of the PACMAN-COTTO Firepower boxing match. See you there!

Magnolia survived Mindanao Cargo Forwarders

Magnolia Fresh chicken masters survived a hardfighting Mindanao Cargo Forwarders (MCF) squad in the first game of the knockout quarterfinal pairing at Montana Sky Gym, 74-69. MCF gave a good fight only to lose in the end game. Magnolia trailed most part of the game. First quarter ended with MCF on top by 2 points 18-16. Magnolia was able to bounced back in the second quarter, 37-33. But at the end of the third quarter, MCF reversed the trend and basketball fanatics saw the lead of MCF ballooned to 6 points. Magnolia played catch-up in the fourth quarter and have only tasted the lead below the last 2-minute mark as their vaunted defense hold up. After Magnolia took its lead, MCF failed to execute their offense properly.

Magnolia will have a face-off with their elimination round tormentor, Western Feedmill Grinders (84-68) in what will be a repeat of the last conference final four pairing when Magnolia upset the second seed Grinders. However, this time the Grinders will have a twice-to-beat advantage. Gametime will be at 3:30pm Sunday, November 15, 2009. See you there!

Quarterfinal pairings: Magnolia vs Mindanao Cargo, DFFC vs SMFI Live Operations

The race for the last two semifinal seat is on. First knockout game will feature Magnolia vs Mindanao Cargo Forwarders (MCF), with the winner advancing to the semifinal phase vs Western Feedmill. Western Feedmill will have the twice-to-beat advantage by virtue of its second place finished at the end of the elimination round. Magnolia is favored to repeat its conquest of MCF which it defeated in the elimination round, 83-68. Magnolia will rely on its main man, Bong "sweet papi" Papelera while MCF will anchor its hope on, Robert John "junjun" Rulona.

In the second game, DFFC and SMFI Live operations will try to knock each other out. DFFC prevailed over SMFI-Live in the elimination round, 77-71, and is expected to repeat over the hardfighting SMFI Live Ops bannered by Julius Ceasar "the emperor" Morandante. The ever reliable Allan Barbarona will carry the fight for DFFC. The winner will face SPDC, the defending champion and the top seed after the elimination round. The winner will have its hand full in defending SPDC's top gun, Joel Lanutan, and its dominant center, Jimbo Baba. By virtue of finishing the elimination round on top, SPDC will likewise enjoy a twice-to-beat advantage.

Expect a slambang affair this Sunday, a prelude to Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Angel Cotto on November 14, 2009 (US time).

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Teams are trying to position themselves for the quarterfinals this Sunday. With Davao Rover and E3 Feeds already out of contention, and Sirawan Polomolok Development Corp and Western Feed Mill comfortably ahead with 5-1 win loss card and already assured of a twice to beat advantage. Four teams will be left fighting it out for the last two semifinal seats. Headed by Magnolia Fresh Chicken (4-2) and Mindanao Cargo Forwarders, Davao Fresh Foods Copr and SMFI Live Operations group all tied at 3-3. The four teams will enter in a knock out quarterfinals match with the #3 ranked team will fight it out with team #6 and team #4 will do battle with team #5.

THe Heat is On!!!!!!!!!

The 3rd SMFI Interplant Basketball Tournament was off to a rousing start, with now eight (8) teams competing. Headed by the top four finishers of last tournament namely Sirawan Polomolok Development Corp - Slashers, Magnolia Chicken Experts, Davao Fresh Foods Corp Wizards, Western Feed Mill Mixers. Other teams competing are Mindanao Cargo Forwarders, E3 (formerly B-Meg Feeds Team), Live Operations Group and Davao Rover Motor Shop.

Sirawan Polomolok Development Corporation Slashers - Champions of 2nd SMFI Interplant Basketball Tournament

The Slashers claimed the 2nd SMFI Interplant Basketball Tournament by defeating Magnolia Chicken in the recently concluded tournament held at Montana Sky Gym. It was a close fight with both teams refusing to give in, but eventually, the Slashers showed more grit and determination. The Slashers who were runner up finisher of the inaugural tournament live up to the billing as the team to beat. In the consoloation game, Davao Fresh Foods Corporation Wizards edged last tournaments champion, the Western Feed Mill Mixers.

Slashers versus Chicken Masters for the Champioship Crown

Sirawan-Polomolok Development Corp. Slashers returned to the Finals for the second time around by fending-off a gritty Davao Fresh Foods Corp. Wizards 93 - 82. The Slashers will be facing their elimination-round tormentor, the Magnolia Fresh Chicken - Chicken Masters handily defeated last tournaments' defending champion, Western Feed Mill Corp Grinders 84 - 71. The taller Slashers dominated the willy Wizards in the boards with Jimbo "Bean Pole" Baba firing in 20 points, but more importantly, was able to control the boards and blocking shots. Baba was ably suported by Lanutan brothers with a combined 31 points output. Jing " The Twister" Apang and Erwin "Mr. Eskinol" Betinol chipped in 11 points apiece. The Wizards were led by prolific Barbarosa, and Mohamad. In the second game, The Chicken Experts played strong defense to outplay the Grinders. The Chicken Masters was in control of the game from start to finish, they put a clamp on scoring machine Patrick "The Prince" Gabi and limited Gabi to a single digit output, coutesy of Julius "Speed" Nulla, Rookie "The Chavacano Flash" Sardenola, and Dr Amor "Pacman" Gornez. The Chicken Masters were led in scoring by Rookie Bong " Sweet Papi" Papelera and James "The Pistol" Guttierez with 18 and 17 points apiece. Nelson " Overdrive" Traya led the Grinders with 26 caroms.

Dethroned! Magnolia upset Western Feedmill

Magnolia Chicken Experts dethroned the defending champion, Western Feedmill Grinders, yesterday at the resumption of the games for the 2nd SMFI Interplant Basketball league at Montana Sky Gym to the score of 84-71. Magnolia waxed hot early on taking a 7-0 lead. Julius Ceasar The Roman Emperor" Morandante started the scoring binge for Magnolia making a 3-point shot. Magnolia's lead ballooned to 20 points sometime in the fourth quarter. The Grinders never got their composure back as their main man Patrick "The Prince Gabi" was tightly guarded and hounded by Philip "The Chavacano Cigarette" Sardenola. Noel "Sweet Papi" Papelera played an inspired ballgame topscoring with 18 points. James "Pistolero" Gutierrez added 17 points while Ericson "The Elephant Bull" Irlandez contibuted 10 points. Also in double digit production is Julius Ceasar "The Roman Emperor" Morandante scoring 10 points. Nelson Traya scored 26 points for the losing squad. Tubias scored 14 points and Orly dela Cruz contributed 10 points for the Grinders. The Grinders topscorer Patrick "The Prince" Gabi was limited to only 9 points for the game.

Magnolia Chicken Experts will face SPDC Slashers in the finals this Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 5pm. DFFC Wizards and Western Feedmill Grinders will dispute runner-up honors at 4pm. The Chicken Experts defeated the Slashers in the elimination round. Expect a slambang game this Sunday at Montana Sky Gym.

SPDC book first final seat.

Last year's finalist, SPDC Slashers, booked the first finals seat defeating DFFC Wizards 93-82 last Sunday at Montana Sky Gym. In the elimination round, SPDC likewise defeated DFFC. The dazzling Wizards were no match to the tall frontline of the Slashers. SPDC led by as much as 12 points only to find it diminished to about 4 points several times throughout the third and fourth period. But that was the closer that the Wizards can get. SPDC was able to keep its composure to held at bay several rallies of DFFC. Topscoring for SPDC is center Jimbo Baba with 20 points. Joel Lanutan contributed 19 points to augment the effort made by Baba. Six players scored in double digits for SPDC to show its balanced scoring contribution. Allan Barbarona and Mohamad carried the load for DFFC scoring 29 and 21 points respectively.

The DIE is CAST; Semifinals on Sunday

SPDC Slashers will battle it out with DFFC Wizards in the first game of the semifinals this Sunday May 24, 2009 at 4pm in Montana Sky Gym. The Slashers will rely on their slotman Jimbo Baba and his twin tower Merwen Remocaldo to repulse the unpredictable Wizards bannered by Allan Barbarona. The Slashers prevailed over the Wizards in the elimination round. Will the Wizards return the favor this Sunday?

On the second game Magnolia Chicken Experts will have their hands full versus the Western Feedmill Grinders, the defending champion. The Chicken Experts is expecting to draw out firepower from Bong "Sweet Papi" Papelera, Julius Ceasar "The Roman Emperor" Morandante, and James "Pistolero" Gutierrez. The Experts' leading scorer Jim "The wild wild west" Dacalano is on a two-game scoring slump. Backstopping the Grinders will be Patrick "The Prince" Gabi, Nelson "Ferrari" Traya, and bigman Orly "The Undertaker" Dela Cruz. The Grinders defeated the Chicken Experts in the elimination round. Will the results be different this time?

The 2nd SMFI Interplant Basketball Tournament is on!!!!


"It is sweeter second time around", this seems to be the atmosphere during the opening of the 2nd SMFI Interplant Basketball Tournament. Commissioners Dr. Gornez, Mr. JP Ocena and Mr. "Crocs" Balucos, led the opening ceremonies for all the participating teams. Dr Morandante led a heart warming prayer and Mr Art Adle, HR Officer of VISMIN delivered the Opening Message. Also present during the opening ceremonies were Mr. Jimmy Dacalano, VISMIN Poultry Operations Manager, Mr. Julius Nulla, Area Manager of CKAG- IFS and Mr. Mike Dizon of Sirawan Polomolok Development Corp.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME - Western Feedmill Upsets SPDC

Western Feedmill, the no. 2 seed, was declared as CHAMPION in the first SMFI Davao Interplant Basketball Tournament played at Garden Oases Basketball court in Bo. Obrero, Davao City. Western Feedmill scored an upset over erstwhile unbeaten SPDC team via sore of 69-67. SPDC settled for second place. SPDC played catch-up as WFMC outplayed them in the first half. The first half ended at the score of 33-23, a 10-point lead by WFMC. SPDC outscored WFMC in the the third quarter 22-17 to bring down the deficit to just 5 points entering the final quarter. The final quarter was a nip and tuck battle with either team leading by more than 5 points. In the end, it was WFMC who emerged victorious on a heroic shot by Patrick Gabi.

MCF won the battle for third place honors

MCF scored a 64-61 squeaker over SMPFC to place third in the first SMFI Davao Interplant Basketball tournament. MCF outscored SMPFC in the second half 31-23. SMPFC led at halftime 38-33. Mark Anthony Yap together with Culaba carried the load for MCF as leading scorer Jun Rulona suffered a scoring slump. Culaba scored 23 big points as SMPFC failed to contain him. Yap added 15 points and Melano scored 10 points to help the cause for MCF. SMPFC topscorers for the game were Cocoy Balucos and Ronald Lara with 15 points apiece.

SEMI-FINALS: Western Feedmill books final seat

Western Feedmill scored a lopsided win over Mindanao Cargo Forwarders 62-52 to arrange the final showdown with unbeaten SPDC team on November 30, 2008. Western feedmill led from start to finish. MCF tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter but was prevailed by the prolific Patrick Gabi of SPDC who scored 11 points in the fourth quarter. Jun Rulona of MCF, the league leading scorer, was held to only 12 points his lowest output so far by the good defense put up by the Western Feedmill squad.

SPDC pulverized SMPFC 70-52 to booked the first finals seat. SPDC now awaits the result of the other semifinal pairing between protagonists Mindanao Cargo Forwarders (no. 3) and Western Feedmill (no. 2). SMPFC led at halftime 24-19 but was outscored in the second half 28-51 by SPDC. The players scored in double figure for SPDC led by Jimbo Baba with 23 markers, with Lanutan tallying 18 points and Betinol with 15 points. Two players scored in double figure for SMPFC. Adrian Basoc led SMPFC with 14 points with Paolo Mesias contributing 10 points.
