SEMI-FINALS: Western Feedmill books final seat

Western Feedmill scored a lopsided win over Mindanao Cargo Forwarders 62-52 to arrange the final showdown with unbeaten SPDC team on November 30, 2008. Western feedmill led from start to finish. MCF tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter but was prevailed by the prolific Patrick Gabi of SPDC who scored 11 points in the fourth quarter. Jun Rulona of MCF, the league leading scorer, was held to only 12 points his lowest output so far by the good defense put up by the Western Feedmill squad.

SEMI-FINALS: SPDC dismisses SMPFC

SPDC pulverized SMPFC 70-52 to booked the first finals seat. SPDC now awaits the result of the other semifinal pairing between protagonists Mindanao Cargo Forwarders (no. 3) and Western Feedmill (no. 2). SMPFC led at halftime 24-19 but was outscored in the second half 28-51 by SPDC. The players scored in double figure for SPDC led by Jimbo Baba with 23 markers, with Lanutan tallying 18 points and Betinol with 15 points. Two players scored in double figure for SMPFC. Adrian Basoc led SMPFC with 14 points with Paolo Mesias contributing 10 points.

SPDC defeats DFFC

SPDC, the topseeded team, remained unbeaten as it demolishes DFFC 72-60 to booked the no. 1 seed and the twice to beat advantage for the semifinal pairing in the 1st SMFI Davao Interplant Basketball tournament at Garden Oases Gym in Bo. Obrero, Davao City. SPDC led at halftime 41-31 and never looked back. Jimbo Baba led all scorers with 21 point for SPDC. Lanutan and Remocaldo contributed 18 and 14 markers for the winning squad. Barbarona led DFFC with 19 points. No other DFFC player scored in double figures.

SMPFC ousts Magnolia

SMPFC dismantles undermanned Magnolia team to ease them out of the semifinals 68-49. Magnolia played without their 3 starters - the injured Ericson "superbull" Irlandez, James Gutierrez and Julius Ceasar "The Roman" Morandante who is reportedly sick. Jimmy Dacalano carried the load for Magnolia team only to lose steam in the 4th quarter. The score is still close at the end of the third period with SMPFC on top 47-43. However, in the final canto SMPFC outscored the now out-of-gas Magnolia team 21-6 to tally the final score. SMPFC was led in scoring by Juliu Nulla with 17 points. Four other SMPFC players scored in double figures with Adrian Basoc contributing 16 points, Joy Alcoberes chipped in 15 points and 3-point specialist Ronald Lara with 15 points. Magnolia was led by its leading scorer Jimmy Dacalano with 24 points with Jimpaul Ocena burrying 13 points.

Western Feedmill edges DFFC

Western Feedmill relied on Patrick Gabi during clutch play to eked out a 51-49 decision against hardfighting DFFC squad. Gabi led all scorers with 17 points. Nelson Traya contributed 14 points to the winning team. Mohamad and Barbarona led the DFFC team with 14 points and 11 points respectively.

MCF breeze past SMPFC

MCF narrowly defeated SMPFC 54-52. The contest was closely fought but in the end MCF got the needed breaks. With the loss, SMPFC went deep in the cellar with a 2-7 win-loss card and will need to beat SMFI to stay alive in the hunt for a semi-final seat. MCF improve to 4-5 win-loss record for solo third place behind pacesetting SPDC and Western Feedmill. MCF offense was spearheaded this time by Dwaine Jorge Culaba who scored a game high 17 points. Adrian Basoc paced the losing team with 14 points.

SPDC pummeled hapless SMFI

SPDC wins anew over SMFI. It was nine straight wins for SPDC. SMFI fought hard only to lose steam in the fourth quarter. The third quarter ended with SMFI on top with 2 points after leading with 8 points at halftime. Erwin Betinol topscored for SPDC with 28 points with Kominie Macaraya scoring 21 points and Jimbo Baba adding 20 points. Jimmy Dacalano of SMFI scored a tournament high 35 points coming from nine 3-point shot. Doc Eric Irlandez contributed 23 points and Dandan Morandante chipping in 16 points.

With the third straight losses of SMFI, its semi-final hopes dimmed and they must win over SMPFC in their last game to keep its flickering hope alive. Meanwhile, SPDC secured a twice-to-beat advantage in the semis as the topseeded team.

SPDC trounced Western Feedmill

SPDC registered its 8 straight wins against a shorthanded Western Feedmill team, 80-74. Only 6 WFMC players came to play. WFMC put up a gallant stand before it succumb to a powerhouse SPDC team. The contest was close all throughout. The score was tied at halftime 33-33 before SPDC outscored WFMC by 3 points in the third and another 3 points in the fourth quarter.
Jimbo Baba led the onslaught for the winning team with 25 points. Orly dela Cruz scored 22 points to lead the losing team.

For the second time, DFFC team failed to show up. SMPFC team was awarded the win.

Mindanao Cargo dispose SMFI-Magnolia

Mindanao Cargo Forwarders (MCF) dispose an undermanned SMFI Magnolia squad. SMFI-Magnolia showed only with 6 players. The game turning point is in the third quarter where MCF outscored Magnolia 18-6 turning around a 6-point halftime deficit to a 6-point lead at the end of the third quarter.
RJ Rulona scored 20 points for the winning team. Doc Eric Irlandez paced the losing squad with 22 points.
